Four hikes you don't have to walk down.
Good hikes have one flaw: the way back down. These four fix it.
Four hikes in Gorenjska, under an hour from Ljubljana, can end with a tandem paragliding flight instead of a descent: Krvavec (about 300 m on foot), Kriška gora (about 600 m), Potoška gora (about 600 m) and Zaplata (about 800 m).
| Hike | Getting there | On foot | Time up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Krvavec | About 20 min by car from the valley | About 300 m | About 30 min |
| Kriška gora | About 15 min by car | About 600 m | 1–1.5 h |
| Potoška gora | On foot from the valley | About 600 m | 1–1.5 h |
| Zaplata | On foot from the valley | About 800 m | 1.5–2 h |
1. Krvavec: the easy one
A short drive does most of the climbing, then about 30 minutes on foot. On a clear day you can see Triglav. The perfect first hike & fly.
2. Kriška gora: the one with coffee
A mountain in the Karawanks above Tržič, with a hut near the takeoff. If the weather window allows, the coffee is part of the plan.
3. Potoška gora: the proper one
Straight from the valley above Preddvor, about 600 m up, with views over Kranj and the Gorenjska plain.
4. Zaplata: the big one
Also above Preddvor, about 800 m and up to 2 hours on foot. For people who think a hike isn't a hike until the legs notice.
How to choose
- Hike now and then: Krvavec
- Hike most weekends: Kriška gora or Potoška gora
- Want the full day out: Zaplata
- Can't decide: book and let the wind choose
What to pack
Hiking boots, a light windproof jacket, water, a snack, sunglasses and sunscreen. Leave the walking poles at home; you won't need them for the way down.
